La Linière  Opened

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

Camp de la Linière was established on 7 March 2016, and as of 12 January 2017, approximately 850 refugees reside there. The camp is located in the Hauts-de-France region in the north of France, adjacent to the neighbourhood of Grand-Sinxe on the outskirts of Dunkirk. The camp was established in response to the worsening overcrowding of the Delalande refugee camp (also nicknamed "The Jungle") in Calais (about 40 kilometres from the city) on the one hand, and the poor conditions in the Bastille refugee camp on the other. The camp was cancelled and its inhabitants were transferred to what is now Camp de la Linière. In contrast to Camp Basroch, where refugees lived in tents, those in Camp de la Linière lived in wooden huts. The majority of the camp's residents are Kurds from Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria, a large proportion of whom were forced to leave their homes by the so-called Islamic State.
